Martin Bell was at Dalymount Park on Easter Monday when the Rising started. His school, St. Agatha’s was playing a football match there.
The game ended around 12.30 and while on their way home Martin and his school friends noticed a crowd gathered at Blacquiere Bridge near Phibsborough.
Some Obstruction Had Been Placed On The Railway Line.
Martin and his friends did not stay around and continued on their way home. They were only ten and eleven years old at the time.
During the War of Independence 1919-21 Martin Bell was appointed Captain ‘B’ Company, 2nd Battalion, Dublin Brigade, Na Fianna Éireann.
