On his arrival Kingstown (Dún Laoghaire) in Ireland, Orson Lucas, a British soldier and his colleague were sent towards Bray as the army had received intelligence that reinforcements were advancing towards Dublin to support the Rising. Their orders were that if they saw anyone with a gun they were to shoot first and ask questions later.
As they headed out from Kingstown they met very few people on their journey until they reached Foxrock golf club.
They suddenly saw us and made a dive for us.
Delighted at seeing the soldiers, the golfers took them into the club house and treated them to breakfast. When they were finished they played some golf.
Orson Lucas was a member of the British Army sent to Ireland during the Easter Rising.
Orson Lucas was interviewed for the television series 'Ireland A Television History' 26 June 1979.
