During the Rising the women of Cumann na mBan and the Citizen Army carried dispatches and food to and from the outposts often under heavy fire. Leslie Bean de Barra served in the General Post Office and was asked by Tom Clarke to fetch a priest from the Pro-Cathedral.
The tears were coming into my eyes with fear, but I was ashamed to let them come down my cheek before Tom Clarke.
Carefully making her way through the streets she finally made it to Malborough Street. The priest was reluctant to go with Leslie but she was going back to the GPO with or without him. He agreed to go with her and she safely brought him to the building and handed him over to Tom Clarke and Seán MacDiarmada.
Leslie Bean de Barra (née Price) was a member of the Central Branch, Cumann na mBan.
