Lighthouse Cinema, Screen 3
An initiative of the Keough-Naughton Institute for Irish Studies at the University of Notre Dame, this landmark feature length documentary, narrated by Liam Neeson, will examine the Easter Rising and the subsequent events that led to the establishment of an independent Irish State, and indirectly to the break-up of the British Empire. This series will seek to place the Easter Rising in its European and global contexts, as anti-colonialism found its voice in the wake of World War I. It will also explore the crucial role of the United States and of Irish America in both the lead-up to and the aftermath of the events in Dublin. Produced by Briona Nic Dhiarmada.
