In 1916 the Four Courts area formed the garrison for the 1st Battalion of the Dublin Brigade led by Commandant Edward Daly. Some of the fiercest fighting of the Rising took place here during that week particularly in the North King Street area, where a number of civilians were murdered by soldiers of the South Staffordshire Regiment.
Take this opportunity to enter through the grand front porch of the Four Courts and into its Rotunda/ In the courts themselves you can hear members of the judiciary, historians and a host of others, talk about the history of the Four Courts, law and order in 1916, looting, the rebels and the rebel trials, and the story of The Helga.
